Where Does Your Website Live

Your website needs to be hosted somewhere in order for Internet Browsers such as Google Chrome, FireFox, Safari or Opera to access it.

Web hosting is a service that allows organizations and individuals to post a website or web page onto the Internet. A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed in the Internet. Websites are hosted, or stored, on special computers called servers.

When Internet users want to view your website, all they need to do is type your website address or domain into their browser. Their computer will then connect to your server and your webpages will be delivered to them through the browser.

You should have already purchased your website address or domain after you finalised the branding and name of your company. This is to avoid the URL being taken – which could cause problems in the future.

You can at that stage also buy the hosting or wait until your website is finished. It’s a good idea to wait however because you may have some specific hosting requirements, depending on the platform you decide to build the website on.

Once your website is complete and ready to go live you or the developer will need to transfer all of the website files, if built externally, into your specific folder within your hosting, and make sure the website address or domain is pointed to this folder in order for it to display correctly.

JEJSD can help you with all of this.
