You’re Getting Traffic. Now What

Your website is live and you are getting traffic, what should you do now?

I mentioned in a previous post about Tracking Your Website Traffic. This is vital for monitoring how your website is performing and how your users are interacting with it.

But what is an under performing page? This could be high bounce rate, low conversion, page loading time, to name a few.

In order to optimise pages that are under performing, you can introduce A/B testing. A/B testing is a method of comparing two versions of a webpage against each other to determine which one performs better. A/B testing is essentially an experiment where two or more variants of a page are shown to users at random, and statistical analysis is used to determine which variation performs better for a given conversion goal.

If you are selling product on your website you should always be looking at optimising your Basket and Checkout process. Google Analytics allows you to analyse the purchase funnel. A funnel is a navigation path (series of web pages) which you expect your website users to follow, to achieve website goals (a sale, download or interaction). Through funnels you can determine where users enter and exit the conversion/sales process. You can then determine and eliminate problems in your conversion/sales process, in order to improve the website sales.

Depending on the CMS (Content Management System) you may or may not be able to modify the designs and stages in the checkout, but if you can, do run these A/B tests to fix the problems. Keep monitoring your analytics.

These are just a few examples of optimising and building on your current website. Do not stand still and always look to improve and modify your website using your Analytics.
